Performance of The Three Musketeers
“One for all. All for one.” More than a century and a half after the publication of Alexandre Dumas’ novel, the Musketeers’ oath remains one of the most recognizable symbols of friendship and loyalty. The Three Musketeers is a story about ideals, courage, and choice—about the ability to remain true to oneself and one’s loved ones in a world where everything is constantly changing.
In 2026, the year of Imants Kalniņš’ 85th birthday, the Chekhov Theater returns to this musical legacy once again. In this new production, Kalniņš’ music takes on a fresh sound, where the past meets the present, romanticism meets irony, and the maximalism of youth meets experience. The story of the Musketeers also raises questions that are relevant today: What does friendship mean in a world that is becoming increasingly individualistic? What is honor in modern everyday life? Is it possible to remain loyal in a time when it is so easy to switch sides? And can love still change people and the world?
The Chekhov Theater production is also based on a dramatization by Andrejs Migla. Imants Kalniņš’ music in the new production is arranged by Evilena Protektore, while the lyrics of Viktors Kalniņš’ songs have been adapted into Russian by poet Sergejs Timofejevs.
