Jazzkaar: Kadri Voorand & Mihkel Mälgand „Songs to Hold You” feat. Puuluup
Award-winning composer, pianist, and singer Kadri Voorand returns to Jazzkaar to present her soon-to-be-released new album. Having performed at Jazzkaar for 21 (!) consecutive years, Voorand has recorded an album’s worth of exquisite music together with bassist Mihkel Mälgand, where minimalism, nature, otherworldly vocals, and soft, calming soundscapes converge. The music evokes echoes of The Blue Nile and Talk Talk’s landmark album Spirit of Eden. At the Jazzkaar concert, the duo will be joined by the widely admired Puuluup.
The album’s overarching theme is a primal – perhaps even feminine – sense of strength and care. As the title Songs to Hold You suggests, these are songs meant to gently hold and softly carry the listener. The album unfolds within a minimalist soundscape, moving at a mostly calm pace and woven into a meditative whole through freely improvised interludes
