Balfolk Placis at Āgenskalns Market invites everyone to experience the joy of Latvian and European folk dance, live music, and community. Inspired by the balfolk movement, this welcoming event brings together locals and visitors to dance, learn, and connect through living cultural traditions.

Enjoy an evening of live folk music and social dancing featuring traditional Latvian, European and sometimes more modern balfolk repertoire. Dance waltzes, mazurkas, polkas, bourrées, circle dances, and more, accompanied by talented musicians. Participation does not require a dance partner or prior experience. The event welcomes beginners, with dance guidance offered throughout the evening.

The events take place every other Friday during summer and autumn. Planned artists:

August 28 (duet – Paula Ābele un Madara Lisovska);
September 11 (Svīres (LV));
September 26 (Garais Placis, a whole day event with dance workshops and Rahu Dance Trio concert in the evening);
October 9 (Ududu (LV)); 
October 23 (Hypnosis Negative (EE)).

Participation in the event on a donation basis.
