Renoir

Set in late 1980s Tokyo under bubble economy with deep loneliness, Renoir follows the turbulent life of 11-year-old Fuki. While Fuki’s father is fighting terminal illness, her mother struggles with work and caregiving, estrangement develops between them accordingly. Fuki tries to figure out the complicated adult world and yearns for connection with the help of parapsychology. She places her fear and sorrow in miracles. Through the rising star Yui Suzuki’s mesmerizing performance, the film captures the delicate interplay and alienation of relationships. In Competition, Cannes Film Festival.
