Persepolis (bc30)
Director: Marjane Satrapi, Vincent Paronnaud
Cast: Voice Cast: Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, Danielle Darrieux
Language: French,German,Persian
Based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic novels, Persepolis follows a rebellious and outspoken young Iranian girl, Satrapi, growing up in Tehran during and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Like other girls her age, Satrapi is full of imagination and longs to freely explore the world. However, with the arrival of the revolution, everything has changed. Through her eyes, we witness the fall of the Shah, the rise of the fundamentalist regime, the devastating Iran–Iraq War, and the tightening restrictions on women’s freedoms. In light of the mass protests that erupted in 2025, the war with Israel and the passing of Satrapi this June, rewatching the film feels all the more poignant.
