Performance Lecture: Dylan Murray, Sex Automatica
Welcome to join us at Index for Sex Automatica, a performance lecture by Dylan Murray.
Sex Automatica is a research project that aims to use material from personal experiences, critical theory, history and other artists’ work to map out the system of Sex Automatica in three parts: the history of sex in cyberspace relating to online bodies, history of cruising and cyborgism, and lastly dissecting the spiritual potential linking it all to the term Sex Automatica and what comes after. The project approaches the term both as a process — a series of sexual acts — and as a site to explore gender identity.
Dylan Murray (b. 2003 in Sweden, based in Amsterdam) is an artist, writer and curator whose artistic practice uses mechanics like speculative worldbuilding and meme-rooted graphs, creating research-based work that navigates “the codes” in a world of rapid technological acceleration. Expanding on new ways to create and exist in “the codes”, they produce new manuals to extract, infiltrate, copy and destroy it. Murray’s work manifests in notes, installation performances and visual residue, ultimately contributing to knowledge production of the offcenter – creating new hyperlinks.
Murray has shown their work at Nuda Gallery (2025), National Museum (2026), StudyForArtPlatform (2026) and curated the visual arts program of Norbergfestival (2026).
Murray holds a degree from Gerlesborgskolan in Stockholm and is currently studying for a Bachelor in Fine Arts at Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
