In Guntis Grants’ oil paintings, tonality combines with elements of realism, which are accentuated by bold brushstrokes. The author focuses on color harmony and precise relationships between color areas, creating a balanced and visually engaging composition. His style can be described as restrained, poetic and slightly nostalgic realism.

Guntis Grants was born in Riga, into a family of artists. He specializes in landscape and still life painting. The artist finds inspiration in nature. The harmony of nature, the liveliness of colors and moods are reflected in Guntis Grants’ works.

Guntis Grants’ creative path is divided into two very different stages. In the eighties, he focused on mastering the art of delicate strokes and a deep connection with nature in painting, but in the next 30 years, life took him to the field of lily breeding. The author continued his work with colors, “painting” in the selection of flower varieties. Guntis Grants has created about 700 lily varieties, becoming a Latvian and internationally recognized breeder. In many gardens, the color strokes he created delight the eyes, which have blossomed in lily flowers.

Guntis Grants returned to painting in 2022, approaching his work with greater confidence and willingness to experiment, as well as participating in exhibitions. In 2024, the artist was nominated for the Jāzeps Pīgoznis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting.
