Adapting Karl Heinrich Ulrichs’s 1884 novella, director Kasper Kalle pours new blood into vampire lore with a haunting, subversive queer folk-horror that recalls Dreyer and Robert Eggers. Egor Venned and Pilou Asbæk smoulder against the stark Faroese landscape. Premiering at Fantasia, this is gothic romance at its most full-blooded with a love that refuses to stay buried.
