Men’s National Basketball Team Friendly Match: Latvia vs. Ukraine

​The Latvian national team, led by new head coach Jānis Gailītis, and the Ukrainian national team, led by Ainars Bagatskis, are preparing to continue their battle for spots in the World Cup finals.

At the beginning of July, both teams had secured two wins each and are preparing for the next stage of the qualifiers with determination.

During the August series of games, both the Latvian and Ukrainian national teams will be able to field their best players, including NBA stars Kristaps Porziņģis (Golden State Warriors), Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (Utah Jazz), and Maks Šulga (Boston Celtics), as well as players from EuroLeague clubs.

The Latvian and Ukrainian national teams have faced each other 20 times since 1992, with Latvia holding the edge at 14 wins to 6 losses. In the FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifying tournament, the Ukrainian team, with 4 wins in its group, is in a better position than Latvia (3 wins).
