Op zoek naar een kasteel en een vervallen boerderij reist een locatiescout door het Franse platteland en terug in de tijd naar haar eigen verleden.
Voor een film over de Franse Revolutie is locatiescout Alix op zoek naar een oude boerderij en een kasteel. De opdrachtgever heeft als bizarre eis dat het kasteel, of in elk geval een deel ervan, mag worden afgebrand. Alix rijdt door de regen en sneeuw van de ene plek naar de andere op het verlaten platteland. Ze ontmoet de bewoners van de oude, vervallen huizen, die herinneringen met haar delen. Herinneringen die ze vaak met niemand anders meer kunnen delen. Inmiddels woont er bijna niemand meer in het dorpje. “Alles valt uit elkaar.”
De melancholieke sfeer roept bij Alix zoete herinneringen op aan haar eigen verleden, waarin de plekken die ze nu bezoekt een rol spelen. De film is een combinatie van fictie en documentaire. Alle dorpelingen in de film zijn hun authentieke zelf, maar Alix wordt gespeeld door Anna Falguères, de maker van Memories. Voor haar is de film een reis naar de tijd dat zij zelf als locatiescout werkte.
A location scout searches for a castle and a dilapidated farmhouse, traveling through the French countryside and back in time to her own past.
Location scout Alix is in search of an old farmhouse and a castle for a film about the French Revolution. Her client has the bizarre requirement that it it must be possible to burn down the castle, or at least part of it. Alix crosses the deserted countryside, driving through the rain and snow from one location to another. She meets the residents of old, rundown houses. They share memories with her. Memories they usually have no one to tell. Almost no one lives in the village anymore: “Everything is falling apart.”
The melancholic atmosphere brings back fond memories of Alix’s own past, when the places she’s now visiting were part of her life. In this combination of fiction and documentary, all the villagers play themselves, but Alix is portrayed by director Anna Falguères—she journeys back to the time when she herself worked as a location scout.
