In Person: Ulrich Seidl
In an in-depth discussion with Ulrich Seidl, to whom Eye is dedicating an exhibition. You can find out everything you ever wanted to know about this Austrian director. During this artist talk, we’ll see clips from his provocative, caring films.
In his unsettling films, Ulrich Seidl confronts us with the lives of a number of seemingly ordinary individuals; people searching for love, happiness and affection in their own ways, striving to make something of life in a late-capitalist society in which meaning has been replaced by consumerism.
Seidl has also filmed Austrian basements, a safari, the world inhabited by models, the sex tourism industry, a schlager singer in Rimini in winter – everywhere seeing love go unfulfilled. In his films and documentaries – Eye is screening them all – he reports on everyday madness.
“What I try to do is to look behind the beautified surface and to go into a private space, and that’s often uncomfortable and may look different than what people would like it to look like.” – Ulrich Seidl
This evening, richly illustrated by clips, Seidl will take us deeper into his black-and-white comedies. This artist talk is made possible in cooperation with IDFA, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
