Ghosted (KINO)

An extraordinary love story between two worlds: Hamburg artist Sophie travels to Taiwan to come to terms with the sudden, unexplained death of her lover Ai-ling. In Taipei, a journalist latches onto her heels, seemingly obsessed with Ai-ling’s fate. At the same time, the mysterious stranger does everything in her power to seduce Sophie.

Inspired by Taiwan’s rapid social and technological development alongside ancient Chinese culture, Monika Treut weaves a narrative that drifts between past and present. At its core lie Chinese ghost myths, where traditionally oppressed women become erotic, daring beings who finally follow their own desires, and thus also find a way to take revenge.
