Festival European Christmas. Silent Night. Latvian Radio Choir and Arve Henriksen

Arve Henriksen is one of the most sought-after and original contemporary trumpeters in Europe today. Henriksen’s sound is instantly recognizable — in his hands, the trumpet does not strive for its usual brilliance, but transforms into an almost human voice — fragile, breathy, and unusually emotional. Arve Henriksen is a frequent guest at the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls, while his album Cartography has become one of the most significant recordings of ambient and improvised music of the 21st century.

Together with the Latvian Radio Choir and conductor Kaspars Putniņš, Henriksen has created the concert program Silent Night, which will be one of this winter’s most special musical events. From early church chants to the music of Renaissance masters and the Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night, the program reminds us that humanity’s desire to seek peace, hope, and light has not changed. Arve Henriksen’s improvisations will serve as a natural continuation of Gregorian chant and Renaissance choral polyphony. They will flow into the ancient music as yet another voice, continuing the musical current that has developed over the centuries, allowing it to continue in a different time and in a different language.
