CITYWALK WITH REGISTRATION: UNESCO World Heritage Architecture in Kaunas’ Naujamiestis (New Town)

On September 5th, Saturday, from 2:30 PM NGO „Gražinkime Kauną“ (“Lets Make Kaunas More Beautiful“) and author of citywalk  “Kur tas Juneskas?“ city guide Jonas Oškinis invites you to discover the pearls of interwar architecture in Lithuania’s provisional capital  of the 20s and 30s near the places you usually visit to study or pray or party. The excursion shall be carried out entirely in English.

This excursion is part of the Kaunas Culture Fair’26 (Kauno kultūros mugė’26) event, and it will start by Kaunas Church of St. Michael the Archangel (Įgulos bažnyčia, Nepriklausomybės a. 14 – from stairs on Laisvės alėja side) and we shall end the 2-hour trip also by the Kauno kultūros mugė / Culture Fair pavilions on Nepriklausomybės square. The size of the group shall be limited to 25 people.

Active since 2015, NGO „Gražinkime Kauną“ (“Lets Make Kaunas More Beautiful“) has organized over 800 excursions on the topics of Kaunas and Lithuanian history, architecture, culture, art, fine arts, society, military or sports in Lithuanian and English. 

After the walk, you shall be able to tell the Residential, Industrial and Representative New Town on the map of the nominated UNESCO Modernist Kaunas: Architecture of Optimism, 1919-1939  World Heritage site. The guide shall also present a playful pathway to deepen your knowledge about small modernist architecture forms – namely, „The Most Beautiful Doors in Kaunas.”
