Chamber Music Concert: Gems in a Rye Field

The concert program, which features brilliant gems of Latvian music, will interweave music with inspiring stories told by the musicians themselves about Latvia’s rich musical heritage and its composers. All Latvians know Emīls Dārziņš’s „Melancholic Waltz,” but do we also know the legend behind its creation? Many beautiful melodies will be performed, including Jānis Mediņš’s moving „Aria” and Emīls Dārziņš’s lovely songs; plus we’ll hear the real trills of a nightingale in the dazzling arrangement of „Skaisti dziedi lakstīgala,” as well as the spirited rhythms of Imants Zemzars’ playful tango. And how could we possibly go without Raimonds Pauls’ melodies in his anniversary year! – Of course, they’ll be there! This program is as diverse as the Latvian people themselves!
