A dream in four colours
A dream in four colours presents a carefully curated selection from the Finnish National Gallery’s extensive collection of approximately 43,000 works. Rather than following a single unifying theme, the exhibition embraces openness and fluidity, inviting visitors to encounter the artworks intuitively. It encourages a mode of looking that resists categorization and interpretation, allowing each viewer to form personal and shifting connections. In this exhibition, meaning is not fixed but constantly in motion—shimmering, unfolding, and dissolving. The works evoke experiences that are often ineffable, resisting clear explanation and lingering in the mind beyond words. By moving away from rigid narratives, A dream in four colours creates space for emotional resonance, ambiguity, and contemplation. The presentation also offers a rare opportunity to see many works that have not been on display at Kiasma for several years. Bringing together pieces by 49 artists, the exhibition reflects both the breadth of the Finnish National Gallery’s collection and the diversity of artistic voices it represents.
