In 1982, panic grips a remote Chilean mining town as rumors spread of a deadly illness said to pass between lovers through a single gaze. Eleven-year-old Lidia, raised by a vibrant queer cabaret family, watches them become scapegoats for the town’s fear. After losing her adoptive mother, Flamingo, Lidia begins searching for the truth. Blending harsh historical reality with lyrical magical realism, the film explores how fear is manufactured and how prejudice spreads. Winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival and representing Chile for the Oscars, this haunting and deeply moving film is a powerful testament to chosen family, resilience, and queer survival.
